§ — Programs
Three programs, run precisely.
SHOBAI Inc. advances civic, financial, legal, and AI literacy for immigrant and working-class communities in Queens, New York — so residents and small business owners can navigate public systems, protect their money, understand their rights, and use new technology with confidence.
Program I — Workforce development
Summer Youth Internship Program
A structured summer internship placing young people from Queens in supervised, curriculum-based training in media production, design, and client communication.
The Summer Youth Internship Program is a workforce development program, not a general summer job: each cohort follows a written curriculum sequence, attends weekly instruction, and completes hands-on project work under supervision. Participants are evaluated at completion and receive certificates of completion from SHOBAI Inc.
Instruction runs across five skill tracks — graphic design, creative project and client management, event coordination, web development, and camera and production fundamentals — so participants leave with a named, transferable skill rather than a general "internship experience."
Participants are recruited in partnership with established New York City workforce development organizations, which refer eligible young people from Queens into the program each cycle.

Program II — Civic media
Community Voices: Public Opinion Documentation
A civic media initiative that documents how everyday New Yorkers understand the issues shaping their neighborhoods.
Trained interviewers conduct short, consent-based street interviews with residents across Queens and New York City on current civic, economic, and policy topics. Responses are edited into a publicly accessible archive used for civic education.
The purpose of Community Voices is to increase civic participation by making ordinary residents' perspectives part of the public record, and to surface gaps in public understanding that inform SHOBAI's literacy curriculum. It is a documentation program, not a content, social media, or marketing initiative.
