Our Work

Beyond our programs, SHOBAI builds tools and civic media that make how New York City works, and who pays for it, easier to see.

Civic media

Community Voices

Active

Community Voices documents how everyday New Yorkers understand the issues shaping their neighborhoods. Trained interviewers conduct short, consent-based street interviews with residents across Queens and New York City on current civic, economic, and policy topics.

Interviews are published at @shobainyc on Instagram.

NYC Council Funding Explorer

Active

A free tool that makes New York City Council discretionary funding easier to explore. Visitors can examine funding by organization, by administering agency, and by council member.

This tool is built from public New York City Council data. It is provided for civic education and transparency, and may not reflect the most current or complete funding figures. Always confirm details with the City Council or the relevant agency before relying on them.
